Emma Martin of United Fall Dance Company will continue as VISUAL’s Associate Artist in 2021. Since 2012 VISUAL has supported Emma’s practice which has enabled her to develop an impressive portfolio of new and original stage works that have been presented both nationally and internationally, to great critical acclaim.

Emma Martin is a dancer and choreographer based in Co. Carlow. She began making shows in 2010, following a prolonged hiatus as a ballet dancer, during which she waitressed, drew, played in a band and got a degree in Russian and Theatre. Her company, United Fall was formed in 2015. Emma creates work that often combines dance, live music, theatre and distinct visual universes, always with the raw expression of dance as its driving force.

Previous productions include Birdboy (2019), Orfeo ed Euridice (2018), Girl Song (2017), Dancehall (2015), Tundra (2014), Dogs (2012), Listowel Syndrome (2010). Her work has been commissioned by Dublin Dance Festival, Irish Arts Center and has been co-produced by Dublin Theatre Festival, Irish National Opera, Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival and Centre de Développement Chorégraphique, Toulouse. She was an associate artist with Dance Ireland and Artist in Residence at Visual 2012-2018. Most recent theatre collaborations include Arlington (2016) with Enda Walsh and Danse, Morob (2017) with Olwen Fouéré. Martin was a drummer in the DIY no-wave band You can call me Frances.
