Dutch artist Sonja Landweer came to Ireland in 1965 on an artists' residency to the Kilkenny Design Workshop and has since been making a tremendous contribution to the arts both in Ireland and internationally.

Sonja's work has developed through a close understanding of the natural world, ceramic forms stand as objects laden with intensity and fragility, evocative of all that is perfect in nature. Glazes mark the work with subtleties that have been honed over a lifetime of investigating her mediums. In more recent years her works in bronze have been acclaimed for their revolutionary casting methods and unique patinatinations. This exhibition also displays jewellery made by the artist, delicate combinations of materials and exquisite objects in their own right.

A Life's Work pays tribute to years dedicated to creativity and the pursuit of a wisdom inspired by our place in nature. She stands as one of the country's most significant ceramic artists and a pioneering force in Irish art and craft. Her work is in numerous collections around the world and was recently part of The Moderns exhibition at IMMA, which celebrated the development of Modernism in Ireland from 1900 to 1970. This exhibition has been supported by the Crafts Council of Ireland and The Dutch Embassy in Dublin. Sonja Landweer is represented by Peppercanister Gallery, Dublin.
