On "Women's Christmas", the 6th of January, join Elizabeth Cope, KCLR's Eimear Ní Bhraonáin and Phd Researcher Kelly Mc Nulty for an evening of fun, frank conversation about coping with menopause through the creative process of painting, exercise and nutrition.

On display in the Studio Gallery at VISUAL is a wide selection from perhaps Elizabeth Cope’s most definitive body of work; the Menopause Series. In these works, Cope mixes surrealist elements with frank depictions of childbirth, sex acts and organs, family members, and the detritus of everyday life. Taken individually, these works are shocking, surreal and - a stated intention of the artist – funny. Taken as a total body of work they amount to a record of the changing state of a female body, the sexuality and corporeality of which has historically been denied or ignored.

This event will include a tour and conversation of the Menopause Series of paintings with Elizabeth Cope, a presentation by researcher Kelly McNulty exploring nutrition, exercise and mental health supports when dealing with symptoms of menopause, followed by an open conversation and questions moderated by KCLR's Eimear Ní Bhraonáin.

Kelly Mc Nulty is a postdoctoral researcher at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) developing and evaluating a menopause lifestyle programme including exercise, nutrition, and mental health supports.

This event is developed in partnership with UPMC, Carlow.
