We are delighted to invite you along to celebrate the launch of Materials Matters’ brand new website. Over the last two years, Clare Breen, Laura Ní Fhliabhín and Mary Conroy have been working together as Materials Matter, also known as Ábhar Ábhar. This collaborative effort is a movement, a container and a way of thinking, rather than an autonomous project. Our aim is to bring together practices and ways of working that have been forgotten, indigenous, passed along, embellished, reworked, reformed, remembered, with the common denominator of sustainability.
These processes, practices and knowledge are local, publicly shared
and open-source. Materials Matter are slowly unlearning our dependence
on unsustainable processes of artmaking through researching, exploring,
playing, sometimes just fumbling about and documenting and sharing that
journey along the way.
Our website is open-source, offering a repository of recipes and insights, to support and guide your creative play and learning. We would be so happy if you could join us on Tuesday 5th July in the grounds of Visual Carlow, at 6pm for a celebratory gathering with drinks, some samples of work and exploration of the new free recipes on our website!
