An Odd Job

A job centre for artists of all ages

5 June - 31 August 2025

Tues - Sat 11am - 5.30pm; Sun 2pm - 5pm

Admission: Free

Welcome to the job centre!

Art doesn’t just happen in galleries, it can also happen out in the world; on the street; in a field; in a supermarket. Artists invent their own jobs!

What job could you imagine in your wildest dreams? What if your job was putting whoppee cushions on all the seats in the train, or painting murals only birds can see, or knitting jumpers for buses.

Artists might spend every day drawing or dancing; making sculptures in supermarkets or performances on football pitches. They might decide to make an enormous piece of clothing or bury a time capsule. Doing the job of an artist isn't just about making artworks in galleries, it's about asking big questions, dreaming up ideas and imagining new ways of being in the world.

This all-ages interactive space invites you to step into an office where there are no rules and no limits to what an artist can do. Here, you get to imagine, design and create your very own artistic job — a role that lets you explore, question, play and express yourself.

All you need to do is:

  • Imagine your job as an artist. What do you do? Why does it matter?
  • Draw a picture and write a profile of your artistic self.
  • Add your creation to our growing gallery — a collective portrait of artists at work (and play).
  • Try on some of the outfits and act out your artist job.

Remember, there are no limits.
You are an artist.
The job is yours, if you want it…
