Carlow Little Theatre Society's production of Eden returns to the stage of the George Bernard Shaw theatre by popular demand this February, following its acclaimed run last year. Eugene O'Brien's much lauded, and award winning play will also be the society's entry into the 2026 full-length All-Ireland festival circuit.
Eden is the powerful story of an ordinary relationship on an extraordinary weekend. Billy and Breda are approaching their 10th wedding anniversary. Breda is determined that this will be the weekend that saves their marriage. But Billy is more concerned with Imelda, the beautiful young woman he has his eye on. From the writer of hit RTÉ drama Pure Mule, Eden is a story of stale love and fresh lust in the Irish midlands. Eden was the winner of Best New Play at both the Irish Times Theatre Awards and the Stewart Parker Awards in 2001. Our 2025 production also garnered some wonderful audience reviews:
"A great production. Well done everyone "
"What a terrific night out, I was hooked from start to finish."
"Absolute magical performances from Aoife and Paul. Beautifully directed by Jo O'Donovan. Congratulations all. A fabulous show".
"Everything that's been said and more. The raw truth of the script, with on the bone acting skills from Aoife and Paul, with such wonderful direction from Jo, silenced us with truth."
'Eden' will be once again directed by Jo O'Donovan and is presented by arrangement with Eugene O’Brien c/o Curtis Brown Group Limited.
The play contains strong language and adult content and is suitable for ages 16+.
