Are you aged 65 or over? Do you live in Carlow? Would you like to be part of a free county wide dance project?

Our hugely popular Doorstep Dances series continues, now with in-person workshops at An Gáirdín Beo, Community Garden, Old Dublin Road, next to St. Leos College.

Doorstep Dances is a dance and movement programme led by local dance artist Roisin Whelan. Each dance session will be designed and tailored to meet your needs and abilities.

Running every Wednesday from 27 October from 12.30am to 1.30pm.

Doorstep Dances at Home

Doorstep Dances was a six-week dance and movement programme where participants engaged in a series of 1-2-1 'in person' workshops lead by local dance artist Roisin Whelan. Each week Roisin and the Doorstep Dances team visited homes across Carlow to dance, chat and even have a cup of tea. Each dance session was designed and tailored to meet participants needs, abilities and music choices.

Over the course of the programme local visual artist Bridget Flannery also visited to capture the dance class through figurative mark making. These art works will be gifted to participants upon completion of the programme.

Local filmmaker Patrick Bramley will also create a film documentary capturing the whole process.

The workshop series ran for six weeks over three separate cycles. Each cycle took place in one of the three municipal districts in Carlow. Dates and districts were as follows:

June 21st - Aug 13th: Municipal District Carlow

Ballinacarrig, Burton Hall, Carlow Rural, Carlow Urban, Graigue Urban and Johnstown.

August 16 – Set 24th: Municipal District Bagnelstown

Agha, Ballyellin, Ballymoon, Ballymurphy, Borris, Clogrenan, Coonogue, Corries, Fennagh, Garryhill, Glynn, Killedmond, Kyle, Leighlinbridge, Marley, Muinebeag Rural, Muinebeag Urban, Nurney, Oldleighlin, Rathanna, Rathornan, Ridge, Sliguff and Tinnahinch.

27th Sep – 12th Nov: Municipal District Tullow

Ballintemple, Ballon, Clonegall, Clonmore, Cranemore, Grangeford, Hacketstown, Haroldstown, Kellistown, Kilbride, Killerrig, Kineagh, Myshall, Rahill, Rathrush, Rathvilly, Shangarry, Tankardstown, Templepeter, Tiknock, Tullow Rural, Tullow Urban, Tullowbeg and Williamstown.

Doorstep Dances is produced by VISUAL Carlow, in collaboration with R.W.D. (Roisin Whelan Dance Company), and delivered in partnership with Carlow County Council, Carlow Arts Office, Carlow Friendly Ageing Programme, Carlow Sports Partnership and Healthy Carlow. This projected is kindly supported by Creative Ireland.
