This interactive space for all ages uses stones to explore storytelling, landscape and time. Step into an imagined world where a stone becomes a central character in shaping the landscape around it.
Using the materials that you find combined with your imagination and your senses, can you draw or create a world to tell the story?
You are invited to:
• Have a sit in the landscape and play with the materials you find.
• Choose a stone from the ground and hold it in your hand.
• Respond to the prompts written on the wall to connect with the character of your stone and create its story.
You can tell us the story of your stone and the landscapes that you have imagined. Displaying your stone on the brown and green wall, draw around it using chalk to show the world that you have created - using your imagination journey far and wide with your stone.
Moving through misty mountains, sweeping seas, roaring rivers, flowing fields, familiar back-gardens, bustling towns – following anywhere a stone might go. Listening and sensing, if your stone could talk what would it say?
This exhibition was made collaboratively by the VISUAL team: Arlene Caffrey, Mary Jo Gilligan and Marian Balfe. When visiting, why not take a photo of your creation and share it with us? @visual_carlow
Tours and workshops are also available throughout this season for primary, secondary schools and community groups. Suitable for all ages, this begins with a tour of our exhibitions and is followed by a process-led workshop using our Lobby Gallery exhibition space to engage your creativity and make art in response to the themes and processes. Contact learning@visualcarlow.ie to arrange your tour and workshop.
