Hallinan’s piece ‘Fragment Meditation’ in the main gallery is constructed using rubble from a demolished church to create a communal gathering area. The idea of deconstruction and reconstruction will be the centre of our textile workshop where we will use old unwanted garments and textiles to create a new piece of 2d textile mosaic or quilt. These will be documented as a whole piece but participants are welcome to bring their work home.
This full day workshop will cover a range of textile manipulation techniques and stitches. Participants will be guided to create a unique piece of art full of rich textures and light relief qualities. Some techniques we will cover: light quilting, rushing, layering, hand smocking etc.
Embroidery is a wonderfully gentle and meditative process which allows us to appreciate, contemplate and be still while expressing ourselves. Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those who have some experience working with textiles this will be a fun and relaxed day of making.
No drawing or art experience is necessary. This will suit all levels.
Participants are asked to bring an old piece of textiles which they’re happy to be cut up and shared among the groups.
