Miracle On 34th Street (1947)
When Macy’s hires Kris Kringle as a substitute Santa, he claims to be the real Father Christmas and must prove he isn’t insane in this heartwarming Christmas classic.
Macy’s department store needs to find a replacement Santa in the run up to Christmas. Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) - with his white beard and twinkling eyes - seem to be the perfect substitute; but when Kris claims that he is the real Santa Claus, he is soon dismissed. Can he prove that he is not insane and is indeed the real Father Christmas?
Originally shown in cinemas with the title The Big Heart, and featuring Maureen O’Hara and a young Natalie Wood, the 1947 version of this warm-hearted Christmas favourite is the original and arguably the best.
