Join artist Toufan Hosseiny to learn to repair or reinforce worn areas of your knitted and woven fabrics using needlework sewing techniques.
In 2024, after becoming a mother, Hosseiny began mending people’s garments during her daughter’s naps, keeping her hands busy and staying connected to her art practice. What started as an extension of that practice has gradually evolved and continues to do so. She now offers workshops, sharing this beautiful and sustainable way of caring for our clothes.
Darning Workshop: 10am – 12.30pm
Learn to repair holes or reinforce worn areas of your knitted and woven fabrics using a needlework sewing technique and making each piece unique by telling its story.
Sashiko Workshop: 1.30pm – 4pm
Learn to mend and reinforce damaged or worn clothing through a modern version of the Japanese Sashiko, using a repetitive small hand stitch and patching.
Artist Bio: Toufan Hosseiny’s work explores textiles as both an extension of the body and a medium for repairing what is fractured or lost. Through embroidery, quilting, natural dyeing and mending, she embraces a slow, meditative process where each stitch becomes an act of connection, acceptance, healing and reconciliation. Oscillating between figuration and abstraction, her work weaves recurring forms into a visual language that is both intimate and collective. By transforming fragility into resilience, Hosseiny turns textiles into a space of memory, care and repair.
