Clare Langan's The Floating World is a multi screen film which presents a sensitively poetic message about possible futures and our place in the world. Shot in three contrasting locations, the viewer is led through haunting and elegaic landscapes where white ash, snow and dust, swirls and settles, prompting thoughts of a world devasted and beyond habitation. The Floating World questions the relationship between mankind and the earth.
The Floating World premiered as a single channel projection at the prestigious KINO DER KUNST 2013 in Munich in 2013 and was awarded the Prix Videoformes 2014.
Clare Langan studied Fine Art at the National College for Art, Dublin and with a Fullbright Scholarship, completed a film workshop at NYU. She has represented Ireland at numerous international biennales and won national and international awards for her work. Langan is represented by Nuala Fenton and Galerie Anita Beckers, Berlin
The exhibition is accompanied by a publication with texts by Declan Long, Art Writer and Course Director of MA Art in the Contemporary World, Heinz Peter Schwerfel, Artistic Director, of KINO DER KUNST, and a specially selected poem by Kerry Hardie.
The Floating World at VISUAL has been kindly supported by Carlow Local Authorities Arts Office and Poetry Ireland.
