Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait

Douglas Grodan & Phillipe Perreno

06 Feb - 20 Mar 2010 |

Parreno and Gordon worked in collaboration to produce this film about world-renowned French football player Zinedine Zidane. The video watches Zidane’s movement throughout an entire game, and captures Zidane in a multi-dimensional space leading the spectator to experience the sensations and movements of an athlete. It comprises a dynamic cinematic masterpiece as well as having huge social and cultural nuances that will touch and interest a broad audience base. In 2005 Carlow Arts Office’s, through the programming strand Visualise, brought Douglas Gordon to the town to make a site-specific live art work. This programming strand was designed to lead into the construction and operation of VISUAL, and now this opportunity to bring this work to Carlow brings this project full circle. VISUAL is working with Douglas Gordon and his studio in the presentation of this work.
