Carlow Little Theatre Society presents The Crucible

Carlow Little Theatre Society is delighted to return to the stage of the George Bernard Shaw Theatre this November with a bold and innovative production of Arthur Miller’s classic play, The Crucible.
Directed by Michael Somers, this major production brings together an accomplished cast of Carlow and Kilkenny actors to tell one of the most powerful and enduring stories in modern theatre.
Set in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, The Crucible begins as whispers of witchcraft take hold in a deeply religious community. What starts with a group of young girls and a handful of accusations quickly descends into fear, suspicion and hysteria. Neighbour turns against neighbour, old grievances surface, and accusation becomes a weapon with devastating consequences.
At the centre of the gathering storm is John Proctor, a man forced to confront his own past as the courts demand confessions and names. As fear overwhelms reason and reputation becomes a matter of life and death, Arthur Miller poses a timeless question: what happens when a society chooses accusation over truth?
Powerful, tense and remarkably relevant more than 70 years after it was first performed, The Crucible is a story of conscience, courage, reputation and the terrible price of mass hysteria.
