Using foraged materials, children learn how to make their own little loom and create a unique nature weave with their adults, led by artist Siobhán Jordan. This will be a very rich sensory and tactile experience for children, developing their motor skills and encountering nature with wonder.
Weaving is when we go over and under and over and under something with something else. We can do this with anything – paper, string, wool, leaves, flowers… even our bodies! What else can we weave with? Weave makes fabric – some clothes are made from woven threads and some of these threads are made from plants!
This workshop will begin with a nature walk and a chat about flowers, sewing seeds and soil - where do we sew seeds? How can we keep soil healthy? Can we find some worms on our nature hunt? We will see if we can find things to weave into our picture - these things need to be long enough to make a row in our weave. These could be flowers, stems, leaves, paper worms or insects and fabric. Everyone will take home their own precious weave.
Ages: 2 – 6 years with their adults
