Sam Is For The Hills

"Sam Is For The Hills" is a famous phrase coined by Donegal captain Anthony Molloy after their historic 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship victory over Dublin.

This April, VISUAL Carlow will host a unique event, fusing GAA, live music and film. Sam Is For The Hills is a cinematic re-telling of the 1992 All-Ireland fan, featuring a full screening of the historic final, in which Donegal defeated Dublin, accompanied by a live musical performance.

The original soundtrack has been composed by musician Brian Dillon, who will be joined by Ben Bix, Caitriona Finegan, and Molly O’Shea. The four-piece ensemble will perform music composed specifically to reflect the emotion and drama of the match.

Donegal's 1992 triumph is considered a pivotal moment in GAA history, inspiring other so-called "non-traditional" counties to aim for success. It marked the beginning of a more competitive era in Gaelic football and hurling during the 1990s.

In addition to the match itself, the event will include footage from the build-up to the final and explore the roles of key figures from the Donegal team, including manager Brian McEniff, team captain Anthony Molloy, and players such as Declan Bonner and Martin McHugh.
