Join artist Kasia Kaminska to create chromatic prints using soil from various locations around VISUAL and a soil sample from your garden, local park, woodland or any other favourite nature spot.

This alternative photography process creates a 'soil portrait' that reveals the health, vitality and composition of soils. Soil chromatography was developed in the 1950s by Erenfried Pfeiffer and is used to measure soil fertility and assess soil health. The process creates distinct patterns and colors that reflect the different elements present in the soil.

Blending science, ecology, and analogue photography, this process offers a unique view of the hidden elements that make up the soil beneath our feet. Organic matter, minerals and humus reveal themselves through colour, texture and pattern.

Participants will create chromatic prints using soil from various locations around Visual and are invited to bring a soil sample from their garden, local park, woodland or any other favourite nature spot. Please make sure to gather the soil sample and allow it to dry three days before the workshop.
