Sean Lynch will lead a free public tour of his project Dreamtime Ireland, which brings together contributions from over 30 artists exploring art’s potential to provoke, investigate and critique the shape and purpose of Irish culture. Meet at VISUAL reception at 2pm sharp, no booking necessary. Tour will last approximately 1 hour.

Sean Lynch (b.1978) lives and works in Askeaton, County Limerick. Known for exhibitions, public artworks and critical writing over the last two decades that grasp with understandings of history, environment and the shape of society, he represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2015. Prominent solo exhibitions include City Hall, Melbourne (2023), Edinburgh Art Festival (2021); Henry Moore Institute, Leeds (2019); Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin (2017); Charles H. Scott Gallery, Vancouver (2016); Rose Art Museum, Boston (2016), Modern Art Oxford (2014) and Hugh Lane Gallery (2013). In 2014, he presented For The Birds at VISUAL, a collaborative project with Carlow's farming community where cow dung and milk together summoned the presence of the medieval Irish myth of pagan Sweeney into the gallery. Lynch has held fellowships and been a visiting professor at universities and colleges in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Oceania, and is a graduate of the Stadelschule, Frankfurt. Alongside Michele Horrigan, he works at Askeaton Contemporary Arts, an artist-led residency, commissioning and publication initiative situated in the west of Ireland and nomadically since 2006.
