Kathleen Holohan - Chairperson (appointed 2015)


Kathleen Holohan became Chief Executive of Carlow Council on 19th October 2015, having previously been Deputy Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council from July 2007 and a Director of Services with the Council from March 2001. Kathleen was a Director in 3 key directorates - Housing, Planning and Corporate Services and Human Resources. She previously worked in Dublin County Council and Dún Laoghaire Corporation. Kathleen has been a member of a number of Boards including Venturepoint, Southside Partnership and the Homeless Agency which she chaired from May 2004 to January 2009. She was involved in the establishment of the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire and was a board member from June 2000 to April 2008.


Dr. Derek Coyle (appointed 2017)


Dr. Derek Coyle B.A. Th., M.A. Th. (Pontifical University, Maynooth); M.A. (Maynooth University); Ph.D. (University of Glasgow)

Dr Derek Coyle lectures in Carlow College St Patrick's in English Literature and Creative Writing. Poems of his have appeared in The Irish Times, Poetry Salzburg Review, and The Stinging Fly. Reviews and essays in The High Window and The Irish Literary Review. Reading John Ashbery in Costa Coffee Carlow was shortlisted for the Shine Strong Award (2020) for best first collection. His most recent poetry collection is Sipping Martinis under Mount Leinster (2024).


Tadhg O'Sullivan (appointed 2017)

Tadhg O'Sullivan is a film-maker, radio maker, sound artist and writer originally from Co. Carlow. His work includes the feature films 'To the Moon', 'The Great Wall' , 'Yximalloo' and 'The Swallow', along with numerous shorts and gallery pieces.

In addition to film, he has written and produced work for BBC Radio and for RTÉ Lyric FM, where he has an ongoing occasional series of essays – 'The Cloud of Unknowing'. In 2021 he was the Arts Council Film Artist in Residence at University College Cork.


Dr Brian Jackson (appointed 2020)

BA (York) PhD (Dublin). Head of Postgraduate Studies, SETU

Dr Brian Jackson is Head of Postgraduate Studies at South East Technological University (SETU) Brian has held senior management roles in a number of Irish Universities as well as in the private sector in Ireland and in the UK.


Emma Geoghegan, (appointed 2021)

Emma is Head of Architecture at the School of Architecture, Building and Environment TU Dublin leading on the undergraduate, postgraduate and professional suite of programmes.

She is a registered architect and urban designer with over 20 years of experience in professional practice and was RIAI Vice President 2020-22, leading on the development of the RIAI Cultivating Research Scheme - connecting researchers, universities and architectural practices. She is also a board member of Arts & Disability Ireland.

Dr Helen Maher (appointed 2023)


Vice President for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, University of Galway

Dr Helen Maher is Vice President for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Galway. She leads an EDI strategy focused on four pillars: gender, race, sexual violence and harassment and universal design and accessibility. Helen’s experience has primarily been in the field of equality and social justice, working in a wide variety of contexts in higher education, civil society organisations and consultancy work in Ireland and the EU.

Helen holds a PhD on the Gendered nature of the Transition to Democracy in South Africa, from Dublin City University.


Michael Brennan (appointed 2023)

Culture, Libraries , Museum & Heritage with Carlow County Council.

Michael has worked in a number of local authorities including Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Kilkenny County Council, Carlow Town Council and Carlow County Council across a diverse range of functions such as Housing, Corporate Affairs, Human Resources, Community Development and Town Clerk of Carlow Town Council. He is also Director of Carlow Town & County Amenity Trust CLG. Michael is an alumni of Harvard University Boston.

Compliance

The company has adopted the Governance Transparency Scale and is compliant with the standards as set out therein.

The Company is in compliance with the recommended guidelines for financial reporting including adjustment for FRS102, and files annual accounts with the CRO.

The Company is on a path to compliance with the Governance Code for community, voluntary and charitable organisations in Ireland. We confirm that a review of our organisation’s compliance with the principles in the Code was conducted in 2015. This review was based on an assessment of our organisational practice against the recommended actions for each principle. The review sets out actions and completion dates for any issues that the assessment identifies need to be addressed.

The Company has annual updated policies in place regarding Health and Safety, Dignity at Work, Child Protection, Employment, Equality and Data Protection.

The Company has adopted the Safe to Create Code of Behaviour
