VISUAL and The George Bernard Shaw Theatre is looking for an experienced Theatre and Corporate Programme Manager to join our team. This person will be responsible for the development and delivery of a vibrant and commercially sustainable programme of theatre, music, cinema, dance, comedy and corporate events.

They will work closely with the CEO and Artistic Director and Marketing Manager to create and implement an audience development plan for the programme.

They will work within a passionate team of arts professionals to develop an exciting and varied programme that invites more and more people to come to VISUAL and the George Bernard Shaw Theatre to experience and take part in culture, creativity and the arts

Contract: Fixed term 12months, 32 hrs per week

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, book and oversee The GB Shaw Theatre programme, ensuring a balance of theatre, music, comedy and cinema.
  • Plan, book and oversee a programme of corporate activity, driving corporate revenue and meeting targets agreed by CEO and Finance Manager
  • Work with the CEO and Artistic Director to develop and implement audience development strategies.
  • Ensure the Theatre and Corporate Events Programme reflects the needs of the business and achieves both the artistic and financial targets as set out by the CEO and Artistic Director and Finance Manager
  • Liaise, negotiate and agree contractual agreements with presenting artists, promoters, production companies and corporate clients.
  • Maintain and develop excellent working relationships with all clients and stakeholders including promotors, producers, local businesses, and community groups.
  • Ensure that visitors to the GB Shaw Theatre enjoy an excellent customer experience
  • Manage VISUAL’s events diary management system.
  • Maintain excellent communications with internal team and ensure that all information relating to events is delegated to the individual managers; Technical, Marketing, Box Office and Front of House in good time.
  • Line-manage the Box Office and Reception team, ensuring that they have all relevant information about ticketed events
  • Ensure that all ticketed events are listed on the VISUAL website and ticketing systems
  • Work with The Front of House Manager, Technical Manager and Facilities Manager to ensure the theatre and all events meet requirements of legislation such as health and safety, licensing laws and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to develop strategic partnerships to promote The GB Shaw Theatre Programme and corporate offer.
  • Stay up to date with industry developments and new productions

Other duties and obligations include:

  • Acting as an ambassador and advocate for VISUAL Carlow
  • Adhering to staff policies and procedures, as set down in the staff handbook
  • Participating in training and development programmes/courses to maintain and improve performance and to assist in identifying self-training and support needs
  • Participating and working within a performance management development system process
  • Any other reasonable duties or projects that may be required in the role, as assigned by the CEO

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be:

  • Passionate about the arts and entertainment sector
  • Commercially focused with a good knowledge of the business and contractual side of theatre and events programming
  • Organised and efficient
  • Attentive to detail
  • Enjoy teamwork, building professional relationships and
  • Enjoy a fast-paced dynamic working environment

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working in an arts venue
  • Training on Box Office and Diary Management systems relating to the theatre and events industry.
  • An excellent understanding of negotiation and contract writing. Experience of dealing with promoters and drawing up contracts
  • Experience of writing reports and working to agreed monthly and annual targets
