VISUAL are delighted to present Close Encounter: Meetings with Remarkable Buildings curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. Originally presented at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale as part of the FREESPACE exhibition in the Central Pavilion.

Funded by the Arts Council, the aim of the initiative was to enable sixteen Irish architects, who’s teams represented a mix of both emerging and more established practitioners, to develop skills in presenting and communicating their work to a public audience in Venice.

The sixteen contemporary practicing architect teams researched a distinguished building of the curators choosing, allowing them to interpret the work in a way that will communicate with the public the core idea of these chosen buildings and bring the legacy of these buildings alive.

The tour gives audiences here an opportunity to engage with this unique exhibition of architecture while contributing to the legacy of the Mentoring Initiative for architectural practice, curation and culture in Ireland.

The Close Encounter tour is produced by the Irish Architecture Foundation
in partnership with VISUAL Carlow and the Glucksman Cork.
Funded by the Arts Council, with additional support from Dublin Port Company.
