Tours and workshops will be available this season at VISUAL for all ages from primary school to third level.

Groups will visit all exhibitions, featuring sculptures, film, paintings, sound and performance. This season our exhibitions are about things coming to an end or being rebuilt, for example: buildings, ceremonies, ways of life and our environment. The workshops and tours explore the broad theme of “what do we value in life?” and foreground imagination and storytelling as essential learning tools: a way of knowing our world and our place in it.

Dates and Times:

Tuesdays-10:00 – 11:30 or 12:00 – 13:30

Wednesdays-10:00 – 11:30

Thursdays-12:30 – 14:00

Primary School – 90 minutes, €50 per group (up to 30 students)

Tours and workshops are suitable for junior infants to sixth class.

Following a tour of the exhibitions, children will work in groups at a largescale, collaboratively building structures to tell stories in. These structures will be based on questions such as “What if we could forget about money and use a barter system? What if we didn’t live in one place but we all moved nomadically each morning? What if we blasted off to Mars, how would we build a new world? What if there were no adults? What if the internet disappeared?”

Secondary School Tours - 90 minutes, €50 per group (up to 30 students)

Tours and workshops are suitable for 1st - 6th year. Groups visit all exhibitions and respond through philosophical enquiry. They will work collaboratively to make structures for storytelling led by propositions such as: build a shelter you could sleep in for a night, make a stage where you could perform an epic tale, build a shrine to protect a special relic, make a raft or boat you could float away on. These workshops are playful, exploratory and focus on building positive group dynamics.

Leaving Cert workshops are available, giving a broad intro to the building, the gallery, and addressing the Leaving Cert Gallery Appreciation question with reference to the new curriculum and art in the wider world.

Third Level Tours - 90 minutes, €50 per group (up to 30 students but larger groups can be accommodated).

Groups of third level students from all subject areas are welcome to visit the galleries for tours or workshops. Varied workshops including drawing and philosophical enquiry sessions in response to the exhibitions can be tailored to a group's needs. These workshops are facilitated by experienced artists.
