Create new mythical characters that might live in one of the landscapes currently in our exhibitions and imagine their supernatural stories. Why is this landscape special to them? What strange things have happened to your mythical character?
Some supernatural creatures lurk in the stories of these landscapes already: The giant of the ‘Giants Playground’ in the Burren that threw the boulders Deirdre O'Mahoney made paintings from; The many headed Hydra in the absent seas of the Dominique White's sculptures.... and did some strange entity disappear the humans from Carol Rhodes birds eye view paintings of fields and roads?
Inspired by these landscapes we will work in the galleries with coloured paper, scissors, tape and paper fasteners to make 2D artworks. Your character can even have moving parts!
The workshops will be led by artist Mary Jo Gilligan. Children should wear messy-friendly clothes!
