Using Sonia Shiel's exhibition Medusa in Pieces as inspiration, we will engage in a one-day screen-printing workshop. This workshop is suitable for beginners and will cover various screen-printing techniques.

Participants will learn about colour theory, generate design ideas for their prints and develop these into a final design. They will then break down these designs to layers and create stencils to create their prints.

What to expect: We will use simple design techniques to plan and create our own unique piece of wall art. We will use the gallery exhibit as inspiration. No drawing or art experience is necessary. This will suit all levels.

What to bring: Textiles to print on. White / solid light colours are best, old bed sheets/ t-shirts or totebags work well.

All other materials will be provided.

This workshop will be facilitated by artist Siobhán Jordan. Siobhán is a visual artist from Carlow. As an educator, Siobhán is particularly interested in helping encourage self-expression and building confidence. Her workshops centre on the creative process and on using different materials and art process to encourage sensory exploration, examination of new skills and questioning of ideas. Siobhán has extensive experience working with educational leaders including The Ark in Templebar (A Cultural Centre for Children), Visual Carlow and The Butler Gallery in Kilkenny where she was artist in residence at Scoil Naomh Bhríde, Ballyragget and NCAD, Dublin. She has enjoyed painting residencies at The Cill Rialaig Project, Kerry, Custom House Studios, Mayo and AIR Krems, Austria. Her work has been supported through mentoring awards from Art Links as well as many Individual Arts Act Awards from Carlow Arts Office.

She runs a successful art school whose popular summer camps are deeply rooted in creating nature-based play and learning opportunities.
